Learners' Evaluation Management System
During the summer of 2003 I started all over again with my 'Leerlingen Evaluatie Volgsysteem' (of which you can find the first version below on this page).
This webapplication served as a sample application in my learning effort to master ASP.NET. For two months I've worked on this project on a daily basis, rewriting certain pages as I gained more insight in the inner workings of .NET, learning from the 'best practices' sample IBuySpy Store.
I used Visual Studio.NET 2003 as my main .NET programming tool and Macromedia Dreamweaver MX to develop the UI elements (User controls, etc.). The site is driven by SQL Server 2000.

VVKSO-website redesign
For VVKSO I redesigned the old frame-based design to the current design, which was based on the three-column model which is so popular with the newspapers' websites. Also a menu was added to make navigation more easy. The logo and picture in the left top corner were provided by a graphics student from Ghent: the title image on the opening page was my work.
I drafted several pages: the one you see here is the one that actually was approved by VVKSO-staff.
The site is completely database-driven, retrieving its data from a database that already existed at the time I developed the front-end.
Please note that the current changes in the design don't reflect my ideas in relation to usability or webdesign as I don't work for VVKSO anymore.

Modescholen
The representative of the fashion-section in secundary education asked for a webpage containing all the addresses of the 'modescholen', so that other websites could link to this page. The idea behind this little project was to retrieve the data (which are frequently changing) from a central database, so that the data remained accurate at all times.
The data were retrieved from an Oracle database in this case, while the page itself was generated with PL/SQL (Oracle technology).

Internationale Projecten
For secundary schools aiming to run an international student exchange program, I developed a webapplication which brought together all the necessary information one needed to start up such a project. The application sort of acted as a hub, bringing all kinds of programms together and categorizing them, according to their target group (teachers only, pupils and teachers, and so on), price, etc.
The site ran initially on Windows 2000 Advanced Server, ASP 3.0 and an Access database. Later on the database was upgraded to SQL Server 2000.
As keeping track of international student exchange programs doens't belong to VVKSO's core business anymore, the site might be closed at September 1st, 2003.

Mini ICT-seminar for ICT-representatives in free secundary schools
To introduce and promote the one day ICT-seminar focusing on the introduction and demonstration of new technologies in the educational field, I made this webpage which mainly presented some practical info. The agenda was published with a link for downloading additional material used on the seminar. Second part of the page consisted of a picture-gallery, showing pictures of a previous seminar (Studiedag ICT) in May 2002.

On line summary report 'ICT-test 1a'
At the beginning of the academic year 2002 VVKSO provided the schools with a small application to test young pupils' (entering secundary education) ICT-skills. The test provided about 25 questions. When the test was finished, the teachers were asked to sent their results files to VVKSO.
I collected all the results (about 52 000 records), brought them together in an Access database and summarised the results in an ASP-page. That is what you see in this screenshot next to this piece of text.
You can view how each question has been presented to the pupils by clicking on the respective question.

Logo and Banner design for 'TO-dag Vlaanderen 2003'
During October 2002 I was asked to design a new logo and some banners for the 'TO-dag Vlaanderen 2003', a seminar which brought together all technological education teachers from free secundary schools in the Flanders.
Although I've never had any formal training in graphics or webdesign I just went ahead and tried to produce the best I could.
VVKSO didn't employ a graphic designer, so I did these kind of things as part of my job as an assistant-webmaster.
Several 'titles' or 'banners' if you like, have been used in the seminar registration webapplication, others have been printed out and stick to the windows of busses (which collected the teachers in the different parts of the country).
Nice job, in the end a publisher even used the logo in an educational newsletter :-)

Enquiry for the need of web facilities for free secundary schools
At the start of the new academic year 2002-2003, VVKSO decided to put up an on line enquiry to investigate wheather a need for cheaper web facilities than those that commercial ISP's were offering, existed. The web application allowed schools' representatives to answer about 10 questions on line and submit their answers. In November 2002 VVKSO published the results of this enquiry, which because of overwhelming positive feedback resulted in the Delfi-X project later on.
The application ran on Windows 2000 Server, ASP3.0 and made use of an Access database.

Leerlingen Evaluatie Volgsysteem
During the summer of 2002 I wrote a learners' evaluation management system, allowing teacher to input pupils' results on line. It ran on Windows 2000 Server, containing the data in an Access database, using ASP3.0. The idea was to realise a prototype which then could allow for demonstrations, showing how easy and effective it was to make use of the internet effectively in a schooladministrative/educational context.
I started all over again during the summer of 2003 writing a sample application in my learning effort to get up and running with ASP.NET v1.1.

Winverso intranet page
For VVKSO-employees only I developed an intranet page which was just that: a collection of useful links, with a shortcut to this page on each desktop. Each link opened in a new window.

Leerboeken
For a web application which allows schools to order course material (books in fact), I realised this design. The site has run on this design for about a year. After that, I created another design which was initially inrtended to be used in an other webproject. The new design reflected the 'corporate identity' better.
I made use of Macromedia Dreamweaver 4.0 and Macromedia Fireworks 4.0 to realise this page.

Vrij Handelsonderwijs
This was a project that I realised for the 'trade' section of free secundary schools in the Flanders. The main objective here was to promote this part of secundary education by creating an interactive website. The website provided information about the trade curriculum itself as well as giving users the ability to post messages (like blogging comments, although that didn't exist yet at that time). It also had a small search engine, allowing for searches within the websites' database.
This site ran on Windows 2000 Server, using classic ASP 3.0 and was initally driven by an Access database. Some data however were retrieved from an external Oracle database. Later on I upgraded the datastore to a SQL Server 2000 database.
Please note that the changes to the current site don't reflect my ideas in relation to webdesign or usability, as I don't work for VVKSO anymore.

Terugblik ict-coördinatoren 9 mei 2001
The aim of this small project was twofold: announce a new ICT-day full of sessions for ict-representatives in secundary education and post pictures of the tenth edition of the 'VVKSO studiedag ICT'. The agenda of the eleventh edition was published, giving an overview of the different sessions and their respective speakers.
I realised this project using mainly Macromedia Dreamweaver 4.0 and Fireworks 4.0.

Sint-Jozefinstituut Schoten
For this project I realised the initial design, layed out the general concept of the site, set up the navigation (menu) and provided the webteam with some sample html-pages. The site aims to represent the school in all its aspects on the web. Furthermore it should present useful information for potential future pupils (e.g. subjects taught in the school, etc.).
In the first phase the main front end was realised. The second step was the realisation of a 'teacher's corner', a password-protected part where the schoolteam could download important documents and find other useful material in relation to the school.
The design has been altered a bit on the current site, but the inital ideas are still there.
